Carnival Horizon Cruise Ship Review First-hand Expert Review

Young teens, ages 12 to 14, hang out together for late-night movies, nighttime swims, sports, the latest video games, and dance parties. Teens ages 15 to 17 gather in their own lounge area to play the latest video games, relax in comfy seats, dance on the state-of-the-art dance floors, and hang at the non-alcoholic drink bar. While you enjoy some time on your own, Carnival will be happy to take care of children ages 11 and under. With more space for stretching out indoors, plus a large balcony for kicking back outdoors, try an Ocean Suite to experience private, luxurious relaxation. Ocean Suites also include VIP check-in, walk-in closet and bathroom with whirlpool tub.

All Family Harbor staterooms feature a unique nautical décor inspired by the craft of seafaring itself. And while you sail along, the whole family will enjoy not only exclusive access to the nearby Family Harbor Lounge, but more great perks around the ship. With a maximum capacity of almost 4,000 passengers and over 1,000 feet in length, Carnival Horizon is a big ship, but its deck plans are well designed. We also love the outdoor bar at the Havana Club, which features a pool, two hot tubs, colorful deck chairs and Latin music. Feel like you are retreating to your own tropical islands at the Caribbean-inspired suites, that are beautifully appointed and even have their own rain shower in the inside bathroom. All boast a large private outdoor patio where you can sink into comfy lounge chairs and enjoy the sea breeze from a hammock.

Each of their ships features a wide variety of great things to do for every group, couple, and family. Carnival Cruise Line is fun and affordable cruising for all ages. Plus, when it comes to value, a Carnival cruise is hard to beat, and 2023 & 2024 Carnival Cruises are set to be no exception to this. Balcony staterooms are proof that while it’s great to be cruisey… on vacation, breeziness is a virtue too. And any time you’re in your well-appointed Balcony stateroom aboard Carnival Horizon, you’re just steps away from the outdoors by way of your private open-air oasis.

Entertainment venues and restaurants are spread over several decks, which is great for avoiding high concentrations of passengers at any single spot. The downside is that this places many rooms and suites on Carnival Horizon in the ‘cabins to avoid’ category, as some get noise from below as well as from above. Carnival Horizon boasts a capacity for 3,960 passengers on a normal, double occupancy sailing, with room for 5,101 passengers maximum and with a gross tonnage of 133,500 GT. Nearly 1,500 crew travel aboard Carnival Horizon during a normal sailing. Carnival Horizon is the 47th largest cruise ship in the world, tying with sister ship Carnival Vista. Of course, you also have the ocean, grand, junior and Cloud 9 spa suites, that are all similar to what you might find across the family of Carnival cruise ships.

And while you sail along, the kids and the adults can make use of exclusive access to the nearby Family Harbor Lounge, plus other exclusive perks around the ship. In-room, there’s a full bathroom… plus the convenience of a separate washroom. A private yacht it’s not… but leave the sailing to us — you’d rather be relaxing anyway. Cruising goes great with sunshine… and for a room where the family can expect a little extra of the sun’s gold streaming in through their window, check out a Family Harbor Ocean View stateroom with obstructed views.

This is also when you'll find things like karaoke and singles meet and greets going on. Carnival Horizon hosts themed deck parties, like an 80s glow party and a dress-in-white event. Guest entertainers might wander the ship, providing personalized fun. (We adored the close-up magician, who boggled our minds with his illusions.) The Liquid Lounge turns into a dance club some nights, complete with DJ.

To 1 a.m., and costs $6.75 plus a 15 percent gratuity per hour, per child. Activities are included, as the atmosphere is more like a slumber party. The fitness center carries a range of cardiovascular equipment, such as treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines and stationary bikes. It also has a small array of LifeFitness weight machines as well as dumbbells up to 100 pounds. You won't find barbells, plates or racks for heavier lifting. You also can purchase souvenir glasses and stainless-steel growlers, which you can refill at the Brewhouse throughout your cruise.

(It's also the faster of the two slides.) The Dr. Seuss WaterWorks has a large kiddie splash zone that includes dozens of water spray toys. Larger-than-life Seuss characters, including the Grinch and the Cat himself, are mainstays of the water park, which also includes a 150-gallon dump bucket. Available exclusively to Havana cabin passengers, the Havana Pool feels a bit like an oasis. It's got greenery and faux palm trees, a good amount of shade, two hot tubs, loungers, sunbeds and colorful wicker chairs. Havana cabin passengers must be at least 12, so the pool area also is more adult-oriented. In the evening, passengers can find live music virtually everywhere.

Best of all — and you may not believe this — the food's even included in your fare. To be the king or queen of the thermostat — doesn't it feel great? While bending the elements to your will, finding that perfect temperature for relaxation is awesome… even better is not needing to. Carnival's Cloud 9 Spa thermal suites are dedicated relaxation zones with a variety of available environments, each carefully developed by our master climate artists. Whether you prefer to lounge in the dry heat of the Laconium or Tepidarium, or like a little soothing moisture in the air (in which case try the Oriental or Aroma steambaths), prepare to experience temperature nirvana.

The space also includes televisions for movies and video games, plenty of toys, slides and games. There's also a creative corner, with tables and hand-washing stations, for arts and crafts. The spa also features a good-sized Thermal Suite, featuring steam rooms (including aroma and hammam), dry heat chambers, experience showers and a large whirlpool. The only thing that's missing is a thalassotherapy pool, which would be a nice touch in the space.

As you step into a Junior Suite aboard Carnival Horizon, you can't help but feel that you're stepping into full-size luxury in a smaller package. Featuring a standard-size balcony, in a Carnival Horizon Junior Suite you'll find everything else there is to love about a suite, including VIP check-in, a walk-in closet... There's room for you and your things — with a large room and balcony — and a walk-in closet. The 2018-built Carnival Horizon cruise ship is the second Vista-class (modified Dream-class) vessel in the CCL fleet.

They offer exclusive access to a bar and pool, for an ultimate away-from-it-all experience. Spa staterooms were designed to have a calming effect with easy spa access and more. If your group likes to sail a little closer to the waves — or just in a calm location at the aft of the ship — choose a Family Harbor Cove Balcony stateroom. You’ll find your outpost a wave-watcher’s paradise… and while we can’t promise, you just might catch a living, swimming marine biology lesson from your railing! This stateroom features a unique nautical décor inspired by the craft of seafaring itself. The whole family will also enjoy exclusive access to the nearby Family Harbor Lounge, plus more great perks around the ship.

The Cloud 9 fitness center is located at the front of the ship on Deck 12, linked to the spa. While the views during your workout are spectacular, the gym is surprisingly small for a ship that carries nearly 4,000 passengers. When the fitness center is busiest -- in the morning between roughly 8 and 10 and in the late afternoon ahead of dinner -- you'll likely have to wait for equipment. We found ourselves tripping over fellow gym-goers in the packed weight area, where we literally had to squeeze into equipment to avoid stepping on toes. Self-service laundry facilities are located on several decks throughout the ship. You can purchase detergent and fabric softener from machines.

Find out which fun ingredients — staterooms, dining, activities — go into each deck. First, Carnival Horizon goes big with the two-screen Carnival Multiplex®, which brings together one theater packed with huge IMAX® action and one with 3D visuals, incredible motion effects and more! This ship keeps things flowing with an onboard waterpark that splashes you more than a little — Dr. Seuss WaterWorks™ splashes you oodles, with a little help from the wacky characters everybody loves. The Punchliner Comedy Club™ and Playlist Productions™ are just two of your top onboard entertainment picks, and they’re both focused on uniting you with unforgettable performances up on stage.
